In Day.io, administrators and managers can remove an employee’s stored facial biometric.
This is important when someone leaves the company or when the registered picture is incorrect and needs to be replaced.
Deleting the biometric prevents the person from clocking in or out using facial recognition until a new face is registered. You must have employee management permission and open the employee’s punch settings to use this option.
Key actions or configuration
- Open the employee’s profile
- From the sidebar under Manage, select People.
- Choose the desired employee from the list. The profile shows tabs such as Details, Device management, Punch history, Requests and Punch settings.
- Tip: Use the search field to quickly locate an employee.
- At the top of the profile, click Punch settings. This tab contains punch creation and assignment options, location permissions and facial validation settings.
- Scroll down the page until you see Registered face below the App and Tablet sections.
- A thumbnail displays the stored face, indicating that biometric data exists.
- Tip: If no image appears, the employee hasn’t registered a face yet.
- Scroll down the page until you see Registered face below the App and Tablet sections.
- Reveal the delete icon
- Hover your mouse over the face thumbnail. A small trash‑can icon appears in the top‑right corner with the tooltip Remove.
- Tip: The trash icon only appears on hover.
- Click the trash‑can icon (Remove) to delete the stored face.
- Click Save to confirm. The biometric data is removed and the employee must register a new face to use facial recognition.
Tips or troubleshooting
- Trash icon not visible? The Remove icon only appears when a face is registered. If no face is saved, there is nothing to delete.
- Unsaved changes: After clicking Remove, you must click Save; otherwise, the deletion will not take effect.
Best practices
- Delete biometrics only when necessary (for example, when replacing a photo or when an employee leaves).
- Notify the employee before removing their biometric data to maintain transparency.
- After removal, ensure kiosks or tablets sync the latest settings so the employee cannot clock in with the old face.
- Do not share administrative credentials; each manager should have their own login so changes are auditable.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What happens after I remove the registered face? The thumbnail is deleted and the employee can no longer use facial recognition. A new face must be registered to restore access.
- Do I need to click “Save”? Yes. After clicking Remove, you must select Save to apply the change.
- Can I undo the deletion? No. Once saved, the previous biometric data cannot be restored. You must register a new face.
- Why don’t I see the “Registered face” section? Either the employee has no registered face or you lack permission to edit punch settings.
- Can I delete faces in bulk? No. Currently you must remove each employee’s registered face individually from their profile.
