In some situations, an employee may need to work and clock in on a day outside the planned schedule, such as a Saturday, Sunday, holiday, or scheduled day off.
When a day has no planned work hours, the recorded punches are not displayed in Super Punch and, consequently, are not included in the calculations.
There are two ways to allow these punches:
- Use Enable day directly in Super Punch for a specific employee and date;
- Enable Allow punches in days outside the planned schedule in the Schedule.
The best option depends on how often employees work on unplanned days and how many employees should be affected.
1. Understand what happens on a day outside the planned schedule
When an employee records punches on a day outside the planned schedule and no authorization has been configured:
- The punches are not displayed in Super Punch;
- The recorded hours are not calculated;
- Worked Hours, Extra Hours, and Hours Bank values are not calculated for those punches.
To release the records, use Enable day directly in Super Punch or enable the corresponding option in the Schedule.
2. When should I use Enable day in Super Punch?
The Enable day action is recommended for isolated or occasional situations in which an employee worked on a specific date outside the planned schedule.
This option can be used, for example, when:
- An employee exceptionally worked on a scheduled day off;
- The work occurred on only one date;
- Only a few employees worked that day;
- There is no need to automatically allow all days outside the planned schedule;
- The company does not want to apply the setting to every employee assigned to the Schedule.
The exception is applied individually to the selected employee and date.
3. How to use Enable day in Super Punch
To release punches recorded on a day outside the planned schedule:
- From the sidebar, go to Attendance;
- Remain on the Super Punch tab;
- Select the employee;
- Select a period that includes the date on which the punches were recorded;
- Locate the day outside the planned schedule;
- Hover over the date row until Enable day is displayed;
- Click Enable day;
- Wait for the data to refresh;
- Confirm that Exception is now displayed in the Schedule column;
- Review the punches and calculations displayed for the day.
After the data is refreshed, previously hidden punches are displayed and included in the Super Punch calculations.
Example:
- The employee recorded an Entry at 10:00 and an Exit at 22:00 on a day outside the planned schedule;
- Before the day is enabled, the punches are not displayed and the hours are not calculated;
- After clicking Enable day, the punches become visible;
- Worked Hours and the corresponding Extra Hours or Hours Bank results are recalculated according to the rules applied to the employee.
Important: review the values after enabling the day. Because the date originally had no planned work hours, the classification of the hours depends on the employee’s Pay Policy settings.
4. How to remove an Exception added in Super Punch
When the date should no longer be enabled:
- Locate the day in Super Punch;
- In the Schedule column, find Exception;
- Click the X next to Exception;
- Wait for the screen to refresh;
- Review the data for the day again.
After the Exception is removed, punches recorded on that day outside the planned schedule are no longer displayed or included in the Super Punch calculations.
Important: remove the Exception only when the punches from that day should not be considered.
5. When should I enable the option in the Schedule?
The Allow punches in days outside the planned schedule option is recommended when employees frequently work on unplanned days.
When it is enabled:
- Punches recorded on days outside the planned schedule are allowed;
- The punches are displayed and included in calculations;
- You do not need to use Enable day manually for every date;
- The setting applies to all employees assigned to that Schedule.
This option can be used for employees who frequently work on-call shifts, cover other employees, or perform additional work on days with no planned hours.
Important: this setting is applied by Schedule. It does not affect only one employee or one specific date.
6. How to enable the option in the Schedule
To allow frequent punches on days outside the planned schedule:
- From the sidebar, go to Schedules;
- Open the desired Schedule;
- Remain on the Details tab;
- Locate Allow punches in days outside the planned schedule;
- Select the checkbox;
- Save your changes;
- When editing an existing Schedule, confirm the date from which the change should apply.
After the option is enabled, punches recorded on days outside the planned schedule will be allowed for all employees assigned to that Schedule.
7. Which option should I use?
Use Enable day directly in Super Punch when:
- The situation occurs only once or infrequently;
- Authorization is needed for a specific date;
- Only one or a few employees need their punches released;
- The company wants to review each occurrence before allowing it.
Enable Allow punches in days outside the planned schedule when:
- Employees frequently work on additional days;
- The company does not want to enable each date manually;
- The authorization can apply to all employees assigned to the Schedule;
- Working on days outside the planned schedule is part of the employees’ routine.
Example:
- One employee exceptionally worked on a single Saturday: use Enable day in Super Punch;
- All employees assigned to a Schedule frequently work on unplanned days: consider enabling Allow punches in days outside the planned schedule.
Other notes
- An Exception added in Super Punch applies only to the selected employee and date.
- The setting enabled in the Schedule affects all employees assigned to it.
- The day can be enabled after the punches have already been recorded.
- When the day is enabled, the platform refreshes the punches and calculations.
- The distribution of hours between Extra Hours and Hours Bank depends on the employee’s Pay Policy.
- The Exception can be removed using the X displayed next to Exception.
- Removing the Exception causes the punches from the day outside the planned schedule to stop being displayed and calculated.
- Enabling an unplanned day does not replace the need to review the records before closing the period.
Tips and troubleshooting

- The day was enabled, but the results appear incorrect: review the employee’s Pay Policy and how hours on unplanned days are handled.
- I enabled the day by mistake: click the X next to Exception.
- The punches disappeared after removing the Exception: this is the expected behavior for punches on a day outside the planned schedule without authorization.
- The option was enabled in the wrong Schedule: confirm which Schedule was assigned to the employee on the date being reviewed.
