This article guides you on reactivating a deactivated employee in Day.io without having to re-enter all their information.
When an employee is offboarded, their data is stored and can be restored easily.
Reactivating them allows the person to return to the system while retaining their history, permissions and payroll data.
Key actions or configuration
- Access the employee list and select the employee
- From the side menu, click People.
- Use the filter to show Deactivated employees by clicking the ellipsis (⋯) and enabling Show deactivated employees.
- In the list of deactivated employees, find the person you want to reactivate.
- Click the employee’s name to open their profile.
- Reactivate employee
- On the deactivated employee’s profile, click Reactivate employee (button in the upper right corner).
- A confirmation window explains that after reactivation you must reassign payment group, rule group, schedule and holiday group.
- Click Reactivate employee to confirm. The status changes to Active.
- Configure return details
- After reactivating, ensure that the position, department, salary and other fields are up to date.
- Add the employee back into payment groups, pay policies and holiday groups according to company policies.

- If you don’t see the Reactivate employee option, ensure your account has Administrator permission.
- After reactivation, the employee is not automatically assigned to a payment group. Go to Payroll > Groups to include them.
