The Day.io app has different screens for recording, viewing, and reviewing punches. Each screen displays specific information, so a punch may appear on one screen but not on another.
The Today screen displays the day's Schedule and organized punches. The Requests screen gathers punches pending approval but does not display invalid punches. For Owners and Supervisors, the Dashboard menu allows them to monitor their team's punches for the current day and the previous day, including invalid punches.
To review invalid punches from earlier periods, use the web platform.
1. Today screen: view and record your punches for the day
On the Today screen, the employee can view Schedule positions such as:
- Entry;
- Break Start;
- Break End;
- Exit.
After a punch is recorded, the time appears next to the corresponding position. The displayed classification may vary according to the planned Schedule sequence and the options enabled by the company.
Record a punch using the Clock Now button
To create a new punch at the current time:
- Go to the Today screen;
- Tap Clock Now;
- Check or change the punch type;
- Review the time and location;
- Confirm the punch.
This process creates a new record using the current time. After confirmation, the app returns to the day's Schedule and displays the time in the corresponding position.
Tapping a Schedule position is not the same as recording a new punch
When you tap directly on a position such as Entry, Break End, or Exit, the app opens the Select punch screen.
This screen displays all punches recorded on that day. For each one, the time and original classification are displayed. Records can be selected to reorganize them into the open position.
Use this screen when:
- A punch was recorded but does not appear in the expected position;
- The time was classified in another position;
- An existing punch needs to be reorganized;
- The position is empty and you need to request a Punch Adjustment.
To record a new punch at the current time, use Clock Now. To reorganize an existing time or request the addition of an earlier time, tap the Schedule position or use Punch Adjustment.
2. What should I do when a punch was recorded but does not appear on the Today screen?
In some cases, the punch was recorded but does not yet appear in the main Schedule position. When you open the position, the time may appear in the list with an icon formed by two circular arrows.
First, sync the app:
- Go to Profile;
- Tap the Synced at: bar;
- Wait for the sync to finish completely;
- Check whether the sync date and time were updated;
- Return to the Today screen and check the punch.
Syncing updates the app with information that has already been recorded on the platform. It may be necessary when the connection was unstable or when information has not yet loaded.
If the punch still does not appear in the position:
- Tap the position where it should appear;
- Locate the time on the Select punch screen;
- Select the same record again;
- Keep the same correct classification;
- Return to the day's screen and check whether the time is now displayed.
Example: a punch recorded as Exit appears in the list with the two-arrow icon but is not visible in the Schedule's Exit position. Tap that position and select the same time again as Exit.
Important: before creating another punch, sync the app and review the available records. This helps prevent duplicate punches or requests.
3. Requests screen: view punches pending approval
For users responsible for approvals, punch requests can be viewed under:
Requests > Punches > All requests
This list displays punches that are Pending approval. When opening a request, you can review its information and use Approve or Decline.
Invalid punches do not appear in the Requests list
A record not appearing on the Requests screen does not necessarily mean that it has already been approved.
Invalid punches are not displayed in this app list. Therefore:
- The Requests screen may show no requests;
- The web platform may still display invalid punches that need to be handled;
- The person responsible may incorrectly assume that all records have already been approved.
The Requests screen should be used to monitor pending punches. For a complete review of invalid punches, use Super Punch or the punches list on the web platform.
4. Dashboard screen: monitor recent team punches
The Dashboard menu is available to Owners and Supervisors so they can monitor their employees' punches.
On this screen, you can:
- See which employees have already recorded a punch;
- View information for the current day;
- Switch to the previous day;
- Open an employee to view their Schedule;
- Review recorded punches, including invalid ones, for those two days.
To use it:
- Go to Dashboard at the bottom of the app;
- Select Today or Yesterday;
- Locate the employee;
- Tap their name;
- Review the times displayed in the Schedule.
The Dashboard screen is intended for recent team monitoring, but it does not replace the complete review available on the web platform.
5. Where can I view invalid punches from earlier dates?
In the app, Dashboard allows you to review punches from the current day and the previous day. Invalid punches from dates earlier than that must be reviewed on the web platform.
To perform a complete review:
- Access the web platform;
- Go to Attendance;
- Use Super Punch or the Punches list;
- Select the employee and period;
- Locate the invalid punches;
- Review and handle each occurrence.
Do not rely only on the app's Requests screen to determine that there are no pending issues in the period, because it does not display invalid punches.
Tips and troubleshooting
- I recorded a punch, but the time does not appear: sync the app and check the corresponding position under Select punch.
- The punch appears with two circular arrows: sync the app or select the same time again with the same classification.
- I tapped Entry, break, or Exit: this opens the day's punches available for organization; it does not automatically create a new punch.
- I need to clock in now: use Clock Now.
- I need to add a time that was not recorded: use Punch Adjustment.
- There are no punches under Requests, but invalid punches exist on the web platform: this is expected because invalid punches do not appear in the app's Requests list.
- I need to review an older invalid punch: use Super Punch or the Punches list on the web platform.
- The sync does not finish: check the internet connection and try again without closing the app while it is loading.
Best practices
- Check the Today screen after each punch;
- Use Clock Now for new punches at the current time;
- Before requesting an adjustment, check whether the time already appears under Select punch;
- Sync the app before repeating a punch;
- Review pending requests through the Requests menu;
- Do not assume that there are no invalid punches just because there are no requests;
- Use Dashboard to monitor recent team punches;
- Review Super Punch periodically to locate invalid punches from earlier periods.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Clock Now and tapping a Schedule position?
Clock Now creates a new punch using the current time. Tapping a Schedule position displays the punches from that day that can be organized into that classification and also provides the option to request a Punch Adjustment.
Why doesn't a recorded punch appear on the Today screen?
The app may not have synced yet, or the record may not be associated with the main Schedule position. Sync the app and, if necessary, tap the corresponding position and select the same time again.
What does the icon with two circular arrows next to the punch mean?
It indicates that the record still needs to be synced or reorganized to appear correctly in the Schedule. Sync the app or select the same time again with the same classification.
Does the Requests screen show all punches that need review?
No. It displays punches pending approval but does not show invalid punches.
If there are no records under Requests, does that mean all punches are approved?
No. There may still be invalid punches on the web platform.
Where can Owners and Supervisors review recent team punches?
In the Dashboard menu, which displays records from the current day and the previous day, including invalid punches.
How do I review an invalid punch from an earlier date?
Access the web platform and use Super Punch or the Punches list.
Do I need to create another punch when the time does not appear on the screen?
Not immediately. First, sync the app and check whether the record is already available when you tap the Schedule position. Repeating the punch before checking may create duplicate records.
