The iBeacon verification method uses Bluetooth beacons installed at a location to confirm an employee’s presence when they clock in.
Day.io supports iBeacon Model 2, which requires compatible hardware and the BeaconSet+ mobile app to capture technical details. Employees must have Bluetooth enabled on their phone when clocking in.
Key actions or configuration
- Prepare the iBeacon
- Install a compatible iBeacon (model 2) at the location.
- Download the BeaconSet+ app on a smartphone to collect the device’s data.
- Switch on the beacon and keep the phone nearby to capture information.

- Access the location
- In the Day.io panel, go to Locations.
- Select the desired location or create a new one.
- Open the Verification tab and click Add verification.
- In the Select verification window, choose iBeacon (Mobile).
- Click Select to open the configuration form.
- Enter the technical information
- Using the BeaconSet+ app, read the following information from the beacon:
- UUID – universal unique identifier.
- Major – beacon subgroup identifier.
- Minor – secondary identifier.
- MAC (optional) – beacon’s MAC address.
- UID (optional) – unique identifier if provided by the model.
- Populate the form fields with the collected data.
- Click Create to save.
- Using the BeaconSet+ app, read the following information from the beacon:
- Test the validation
- Ensure the beacon is powered and the battery is sufficient.
- Instruct employees to enable Bluetooth and approach the beacon when clocking in using the mobile app.
- In Attendance > Punch log, confirm that the Verification column shows “iBeacon” and that punches outside the range appear as pending.
Other actions available
- Delete the iBeacon method – Use the trash icon in the Verification tab to remove the method and register another.
- Update device data – If the beacon is replaced or its UUID/Major/Minor changes, delete the method and re‑register it.
Tips or troubleshooting
- Position the beacon centrally and visibly within the area to ensure adequate range.
- Periodically check the beacon’s battery to avoid validation failures.
- Devices with Bluetooth disabled will not be validated; remind employees to keep Bluetooth on.
Best practices
- Label each beacon physically to match the name registered in the system for easier maintenance.
- Test validation with different phone models to ensure compatibility.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need a separate app to configure the iBeacon?
Yes. Use the BeaconSet+ app (or another manufacturer’s app) to read the UUID, Major and Minor before registering them in Day.io. - Can I have more than one iBeacon per location?
No. Day.io allows only one verification method per location. To use multiple beacons, create separate locations or job sites. - What happens if an employee’s Bluetooth is off?
The punch will not be validated via iBeacon and will appear as pending for approval.
