When an employee clocks in using Day.io, the system automatically checks three things to ensure authenticity:
- Identity – It validates the employee’s phone number and registered device.
- Location – It confirms where the employee was, using methods like GPS, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth/iBeacon or network IP.
- Time – It compares the device’s time with the official time zone of the location.
If any of these checks fail, the punch is recorded but flagged as Pending until a supervisor approves or rejects it. These checks provide greater security and transparency.

Tips and troubleshooting
- If the required method (e.g., Wi‑Fi or iBeacon) is unavailable, the employee can still punch manually, but the status will be Pending and must be reviewed.
- Make sure the device time is synchronized with the carrier or internet; discrepancies may cause automatic the punch to be pending for approval.
Best practices
- Choose the verification method best suited to each location: GPS for fixed addresses, Wi‑Fi for controlled networks, iBeacon for precise indoor locations.
- Inform employees which methods will be used and instruct them to keep GPS and Bluetooth enabled.
- Regularly review pending punches to avoid backlog and payroll delays.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between location and identity verification? Location verification confirms the address and method (GPS, Wi‑Fi, etc.), while identity verification checks the employee’s phone number and device.
- Why are some punches pending even with GPS on? Employees may be outside the address or the location could not be obtained. A supervisor needs to review the context before approval.
