When an employee clocks in using Day.io, the system automatically checks three things to ensure authenticity:
- Identity – It validates the employee’s phone number and registered device.
- Location – It confirms where the employee was, using methods like GPS, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth/iBeacon or network IP.
- Time – It compares the device’s time with the official time zone of the location.
If any of these checks fail, the punch is recorded but flagged as Pending until a supervisor approves or rejects it. These checks provide greater security and transparency.

- For web punches (computer), enable IP verification; for mobile devices, use GPS, Wi‑Fi and/or iBeacon.
Is it possible to add more than one verification method to the same Location?
No. Each Location can have only one verification method configured at a time.
When a Location already has a method configured, the option to add another method is not available. In this case, you must delete the current verification and add a new one.
How to delete the current verification method
- Go to Locations;
- Open the Location you want to change;
- Go to the Verification tab;
- The currently configured method will be displayed on the screen;
- Hover over the verification and click the trash can icon to remove it.
After deletion, the Location will no longer have a verification method configured.
How to add a new verification method
After removing the previous configuration:
- Remain on the Location's Verification tab;
Click Add verification method.
You can also click the Verification button in the upper-right corner. Both options take you to the same method selection step.
- Select the desired method;
- Click Select;
- Complete the configuration for the selected method.
Important: you cannot have two different verification methods active at the same time for the same Location. If a verification is already configured, first use the trash can icon to remove it, and then configure the new method.
Why can't I see the option to add another verification method?
If you open the Verification tab and only see the method that is already configured and the delete icon, this means the Location already has an active verification method.
The Add verification method button becomes available again after the current configuration is removed.
Tips and troubleshooting
- If the required method, such as Wi-Fi or iBeacon, is unavailable, the employee may still clock in manually, but the punch will be marked as Pending and will require approval.
- Keep the device time synchronized with the mobile carrier's time. Differences may cause the punch to be automatically marked as Pending.
Best practices
- Define the most appropriate verification method for each Location: GPS for fixed addresses, Wi-Fi when a controlled network is available, and iBeacon for greater accuracy in indoor environments.
- Inform employees which methods will be used and instruct them to keep GPS and Bluetooth enabled on their phones.
- Regularly review Pending punches to prevent records from accumulating and causing payroll delays.
Frequently asked questions
