The Wi‑Fi verification method validates an employee’s location by checking the wireless network they are connected to. It is configured by administrators in Day.io through the web panel.
When the employee clocks in via the mobile app, the device must be connected to the registered network; otherwise the punch will be pending for supervisor approval.
Key actions or configuration
Access a location
- Go to Settings > Locations.
- Select an existing location or click +New Location to create a new one (enter ID, Location name and Address, then save).
- Open the location’s detail page.
Open the Verification tab
- Click the Verification tab next to Details.
- If no method exists, a message states that no verification method is set and shows an Add verification button.
Choose the Wi‑Fi method
- Click Add verification.
- In the Select verification window, choose Wi‑Fi.
- Click Select to open the configuration form.
- Enter the network information
- Provide:

- Provide:
- Test the punch
- Ask employees to connect to the registered network and clock in using the mobile app.
- In Attendance > Punch log, verify that the Verification column shows “Wi‑Fi” and that punches made off the network appear as pending.
Tips or troubleshooting
- Make sure SSID and BSSID are copied exactly as they appear on the router; any mismatch will prevent verification.
- Similar network names can confuse employees; instruct them to verify their connection before clocking in.
- If the router is replaced or the BSSID changes, delete and re‑create the Wi‑Fi method to avoid invalid punches.
Best practices
- Use stable routers and avoid mobile hotspots to ensure consistent signals.
- Periodically review and update network information as infrastructure changes.
- Restrict Wi‑Fi access to prevent unauthorized people from clocking in at your address.
Frequently asked questions
- How many Wi‑Fi networks can I register per location?
Only one verification method can be active per location. To register another network, delete the current configuration and add the new one. - Does the employee need to be connected to Wi‑Fi to validate the punch?
Yes. If the device is not connected to the registered network, the punch will be marked as pending and require supervisor approval. - Can I change network information without deleting the method?
No. To change the SSID or BSSID, delete the existing verification and create a new one with the correct details.
