On a Kiosk (tablet), you can assign a fixed Location and also enable a Custom location option so that the device can record punches using its GPS coordinates.
This is useful when the tablet needs to move between sites, as the punch will reflect the device’s current position.
Key actions
- Open Kiosk Settings and select the device
- Click your avatar and choose Company Settings.
- Select the Kiosk Settings tab.
- In the list of tablets, click the device line to open the side window with its settings.
- Enable the Custom/Current location option
- Scroll down to the advanced options section of the device window.
- Find the Custom location switch and toggle it on.
- Click Save so the change applies when the device next syncs.
- Punch using the current location on the tablet
- When employees clock in or out on the tablet, the Kiosk will use the devices’s GPS to punch, and the recorded location will appear on the confirmation.
- When employees clock in or out on the tablet, the Kiosk will use the devices’s GPS to punch, and the recorded location will appear on the confirmation.
Tips and troubleshooting
- Ensure the tablet’s GPS is turned on and the Day.io Kiosk app has location permissions.
- The Custom location option is optional and it replaces the fixed location; if the tablet stays at a fixed site, leave the assigned Location only.
- After toggling Custom location, remember to click Save so the option appears on the tablet.
Best practices
- Enable Custom location only for devices that move between sites (for example, during temporary projects).
Frequently asked questions
