In Day.io, phases are periods defined in overtime or bank rules that segment specific days and times.
Editing the phase name helps identify, in reports, which hours belong to each period. This feature is available only for policies created after March 2024; if your policy is older you must create a new one.
Customising phase names improves transparency and makes it easier to manage multiple policies.
Create a policy (if needed)
If the policy was created before March 2024, create a new pay policy to enable name editing.
Access the phases
Within the policy, go to the Paid Overtime tab and locate the Days/Phases section.
In recent policies, the name fields are editable.
Edit the name of an existing phase
Click the Name field next to the period.
Enter a new descriptive name (e.g., Week 50%, Sundays 100%).
Click Save at the bottom of the page after finishing.
This name will appear in the columns of overtime, banked hours and attendance reports.
Name new phases when creating rules
When adding a new rule, fill in the Name field during configuration.
Use clear abbreviations or short descriptions (e.g., BH 100%, Extra 50%).
Click Save at the bottom of the page after finishing.
Check reports
Generate Hours Bank or Extra Hours reports and verify that the column shows the new phase name. They are also shown at other reports such as the Payroll report and the Summary.
Use the phase name to filter or search for specific information.
Tips or troubleshooting
If the field is not editable, ensure the policy was created after March 2024.
If reports do not show the new name, ensure the phase was correctly renamed and the report refreshed.
Remember to save after editing; otherwise the change will not apply.
Best practices
Establish a standard (e.g., D50 for Sunday 50%, N100 for night 100%).
Update phase names whenever rules or agreements change.
Document changes so other managers understand the abbreviations.
Regularly review reports to ensure names reflect reality.
