Tolerance is a grace period that allows administrators to ignore small early or late punches.
You can enable tolerance for each Pay Policy and decide whether the limit applies to each punch separately or to the daily total.
The settings are managed in the Pay Policies module and are available to administrators.
Open the Pay policy
From the sidebar select Pay Policies and click a group.
In the group view open the Tolerance tab.
Enable or disable tolerance
Toggle Activate/Deactivate tolerance to turn the rule on or off.
Set the tolerance limit
Enter the number of minutes in the Tolerance limit field (e.g.,
5m).
Choose the calculation period
In the Period dropdown choose Per Punch or Daily Total (detailed explanation below).
(Optional) Include other punches
Check Consider the Break registers too to apply tolerance to break punches.
Check Consider early Entry and late Exit too to count early arrival and late departure in the tolerance calculation.

Understanding the difference between Daily Total and Per Punch
Daily Total:
With the daily total, the system considers the employee’s entire workday and adds up all early and late punches that occurred throughout that day.
The configured value represents a total daily limit, applied to the final accumulated time of the workday.
As long as the sum of early and late minutes remains within this limit, no deduction is applied. However, when the accumulated total exceeds the defined tolerance, all the accumulated time for that day is deducted, not just the minutes that exceeded the limit.
For example, if daily tolerance is set to 10 minutes and the employee has a 6-minute late clock-in and a 4-minute early clock-out, the total accumulated time for the day is 10 minutes.
In this case, no deduction is applied, since the value is exactly within the allowed limit.
In another scenario, with the same 10-minute daily tolerance, if the employee accumulates an 8-minute late clock-in and a 5-minute early clock-out, the total for the day becomes 13 minutes.
Because the daily limit was exceeded, the full 13 minutes are deducted.
Per Punch:
With per punch tolerance, the configured limit is applied individually to each punch made by the employee, such as clock-in, break start, break end, and clock-out.
The system evaluates each punch independently and uses a compensation-based calculation, in which only the punches that exceed the configured limit result in a deduction.
When a punch remains within the tolerance, no time is deducted. However, if a specific punch exceeds the defined limit, the full time of that punch is deducted, not just the excess minutes. Punches that remain within the tolerance do not compensate for other punches that exceeded the limit.
For example, considering a per punch tolerance of 10 minutes, if the employee is 13 minutes late for clock-in, that punch exceeds the limit and results in a 13-minute deduction.
If, on the same day, the employee is 8 minutes late for clock-out, this delay remains within the tolerance and does not generate a deduction.
Therefore, even though there was more than one delay during the day, only the 13 minutes from the clock-in are deducted, since it was the only punch that exceeded the allowed limit.
Tips / Troubleshooting
Switching from Daily Total to Per Punch means that early punches will no longer compensate late punches.
Enable Consider the Break registers too if lunch or break punches are required; otherwise leave it unchecked.
Best practices
Publish an internal policy explaining how tolerance works so that employees understand how small delays are handled.
FAQ
