Day.io uses three profiles: Owner, Supervisor and Basic, plus granular permission levels to control access.
Profiles determine which tabs appear in the mobile app, while permissions grant additional actions such as data export or request approval.
Profiles and permissions differ by platform (web, kiosk and mobile).
Key actions
- Profiles on the computer
- Available: Owner, Supervisor and Basic.
- Permissions: Administrator, Supervisor, Finance, etc.; you can create custom roles.
- The Owner can manage all employees and settings; it should be assigned sparingly.
- Profiles on the kiosk (tablet)
- Available: Owner, Supervisor and Basic.
- Only Administrators and Supervisors see the Advanced Settings option.
- Profiles on the mobile app
- Available: Owner, Supervisor and Basic; your assigned permission does not change the tabs displayed.
- Owner profile:
- Dashboard – shows who is working, who hasn’t arrived and lets you set Wi‑Fi geofences.
- Requests – lists all punch or absence requests; tap a request to approve or deny.
- Today – clock in/out and view your own punches.
- Profile – manage location verification (GPS or Wi‑Fi) and edit company details; quickly add employees.
- Supervisor profile:
- Dashboard – displays only your team members and those not present.
- Requests – approve your team’s punches and absences; use the Create menu to open absence requests.
- Today – clock in/out; if you also punch, you can edit past punches.
- Profile – view time-off balance, change language and edit your personal details.
- Basic profile:
- Requests – submit absence requests via the Create menu and track their status.
- Today – clock in/out and view your punch history.
- Profile – check banked hours, change language and update your personal information.
Tips or troubleshooting
- Missing tabs typically mean you have the wrong profile; ask your administrator to verify your profile.
- Profiles and permissions are separate; a Basic user with all permissions still sees only Requests, Today and Profile.
- Ensure GPS or Wi‑Fi is enabled if you need to set geofences or verify location.
Best practices
- Assign the Owner profile to only one person per company; it grants complete access.
- Use the Supervisor profile to manage teams without exposing company-wide data.
- Encourage Basic users to keep the app updated to avoid missing features.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I change my own profile in the app? No. Only administrators can change profiles.
- Why doesn’t the Supervisor see the Dashboard tab? The dashboard shows team members; if no team is assigned, it will be empty.
- Can a person have more than one profile? No. Each user has one profile per platform.
